This multi-week workshop is for people who have had some experience drawing with pencil and charcoal, but who still feel like beginners, as well as for experienced artists who want to further develop their ability to draw what they see.
We will use a variety of exercises to help us really see and represent the world as we perceive it: how to capture shapes, space, light, shadow, mass and movement. We will also focus on the composition of our drawings on the page. And, we will consider the emotions and ideas that our drawings communicate. As with the beginning class, we will look at examples from the art of diverse movements and cultures. Drawing subjects will include still life, portraits and, possibly, figure drawing. This workshop differs from the beginning class in that we will develop our drawing skills further, and we will investigate drawing topics more deeply. This workshop is designed to be a welcoming space in which everyone can explore and learn from one another.
