Countertenor Anthony Roth Costanzo headlines American composer Philip Glass’s transcendent contemporary creation “Akhnaten” at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 23 at the Newport Performing Arts Center’s Alice Silverman Theatre. Screened live in HD from the Metropolitan Opera in New York City, the Met Premiere is hosted locally by Kay Moxness.
Karen Kamensek conducts Phelim McDermott’s stunning production, which employs a virtuosic company of acrobats and jugglers to conjure a mystical reimagining of ancient Egypt. Run time is approximately 3 hours and 45 minutes, with two intermissions; read a synopsis from the Met.
The Metropolitan Opera Live in HD series is made possible by a generous grant from the Neubauer Family Foundation. OCCA thanks the Jeannette B.
