Tea and Talk events, organized by Coastal Arts Guild, are informal afternoon gatherings for anyone curious about art and artists. Learn about inspiration, techniques, materials, and more from practicing artists. Free and open to all, held on the 2nd floor of Newport Visual Arts Center.
This month’s event will feature Artist Vince Zettler. Zettler’s presentation will include a discussion of the design process and the inspiration for the materials and subjects of his artworks. Drawings are the beginning of the process of how a weaving starts, whether abstract or realistic. Examples of drawings and designs will be shown in the presentation, either for the artist to choose from or for a patron to confirm for commission. Selecting the direction of future artworks is how new work happens.
Zettler’s work is currently on display in the “Woven Works” exhibit at the Newport Visual Arts Center, and the second half of the talk will take place touring the 10 weavings that he has on display in that exhibit.
Zettler has spent most of his life making and displaying Art. He has been curator of both the Corvallis Art Center and the Benton County Historical Museum. He has taught as adjunct faculty at the U of O, Oregon State, and Western Oregon, teaching weaving, drawing, and design. He has also been a Certified Autism Specialist at both South and West Albany High Schools, using Art Therapy as part of his curriculum. Zettler lives in Summit, Oregon. He has enjoyed working with the Director and Fiber Fest Committee of the Newport Visual Art Center to help curate and install the “Woven Worlds” exhibit.
