Once upon a time a curious young woman chased a white rabbit down a hole… and found herself on a magical, musical adventure through the madness of Wonderland. From the director who brought you 2018's wild and whimsical adaptation of A Midsummer Night's Dream comes a groundbreaking new rock musical adaptation of Alice's Adventures Underground, inspired by the work of Lewis Carroll and featuring 33 musical numbers!
Join us for an incredible, innovative, magical, mystical, musical journey! Red Octopus Theatre Company, along with director Darcy Hogan and music director Milo Graamans, will hold OPEN AUDITIONS for the world premiere production of "Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland: A Curious Rock Musical" on Saturday, October 19th at 10:00am at the Newport Performing Arts center.
A large cast of actors, vocalists, and dancers are needed to help bring this adventure to life. Forget what you think you know about these characters – especially with regard to role size and importance – because this is unlike any "Alice" you've ever seen! All roles are open. Seeking Alice, Ms. Liddell, Louis, Carol, White Rabbit, House Mouse, Dodo, Lory Bird, Squirrel, Crab, Caterpillar, Mushrooms, Mock Turtle, Tweedledum, Tweedledee, Duchess, Cheshire Cat, Nine of Hearts, Deuce of Hearts, Ace of Hearts, Five of Hearts, Queen of Hearts, King of Hearts, Mad Hatter, March Hare, Dormouse, Jabberwock (Knave of Hearts), Bandersnatch, Mome Raths, Mimsy Toves, Borogove, Queen of Clubs, Executioner, and others. Most roles are open to any gender and all roles are open to any ethnicity. Many of the major roles require strong vocal skill, however there are non-singing/non-dancing roles available, as well as roles which require only singing or dancing.
Auditions begin promptly at 10:00am. Please do not arrive late, and be prepared to stay until 1:00pm (though many will be released earlier than that). Callbacks (by invitation only) will be held the following evening – October 20th at 5:30pm. Rehearsals will begin on January 2, 2020 and the final production will run April 3-19, 2020 in the Alice Silverman Theatre at the Newport Performing Arts Center. Full audition information, audition sides, and instructions will be made available at www.AliceTheRockMusical.com.
Parents should note that this is NOT a children's theatre show and there are no dedicated roles for children in the production. While the majority of the roles will be played by adults, very experienced younger performers (10+) are welcome to audition. Parents should be aware, however, that youth performers will compete side-by-side with adults for the same roles, and (if cast) there is no backstage supervision provided. The role of Alice must be played by an adult (or a performer 16+ with parental permission). While this is not a 'kids show' it is also not an 'adult-themed show'. The production has no profanity and the final performances in April should be appropriate for audiences aged 8 and up (approximately).
