The Oregon Coast Council for the Arts presents the 2016 Newport Paper & Book Arts Festival’s “Instructors Show” in the Upstairs Gallery at the Newport Visual Arts Center from March 18 to April 24.

An opening reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. April 1, and another during the festival itself from 5 to 7 p.m. April 22. The contributing artists will talk about their work on April 22 at 6 p.m.

The 21st annual Newport Paper & Book Arts Festival (NPBAF) will include 16 instructors, all of whom have been invited to show original work related to the festival in the “Instructors Show.” The instructors represent various paper and book art-making mediums, including surface design, paper and eco-dyeing, collage mixed media and paper manipulation.

Instructors in the 2016 NPBAF come from the Pacific Northwest and beyond. Lincoln County instructors include Heather Fortner (Toledo), Cheri Aldrich (Newport), the festival’s co-founder, Sarah Gayle (Toledo) and Moe Snyder (Seal Rock). Oregon-based instructors include Judilee Fitzhugh (Mollala), Glenda Goodrich (Salem), Kathy Karbo (Portland), Arlene Warner (Medford), Jackie Wygant (Portland), and Marilyn Zornado (Portland).  Other instructors include Dolores Guffey (Cutten, CA), Margo Klass (Fairbanks, AK), David Sumerlin (Rochester, WA) and Jill Timm (Wenatchee, WA).

“These artists represent some of the finest in the country,” says Tom Webb, OCCA VAC director. “To have them together in one exhibit is a rare collection of talent. The Instructors Show highlights the quality of the festival and draws the interest of new festival attendees.”
