The Oregon Coast Council for the Arts welcomes the student art exhibit, “The Wisdom of Youth,” to the Newport Visual Art Center’s Classroom Gallery from September 9 to October 29. The exhibit includes paintings and collage by 12 students working with Neighbors for Kids (Kids Zone after school program) in Depoe Bay. A First Friday opening reception will be held on September 9, 5:00-7:00pm at the VAC.

The “Wisdom of Youth” exhibit includes heartfelt views on what is important in life through the perspectives of youth. Participating artists, ranging from age 9 to 13, include Erika Ariss, Lily Carpenter, Jasmine Daniels, Stella Dietrich, Kelsey Getty, Kaile Gower, Flores Hanson, Angelica Houck, Kira King, Zayden Parsons, Lacey Silver and Kendall Wilson.

“This group of young artists has created a body of work from their hearts, and they are excited to share what they have learned and discovered about themselves and making art,” says instructor Krista Eddy. “Wisdom of Youth” was on display last spring at the Lincoln City Cultural Center and is considering future exhibition locations following the show at the VAC.

“Art is like eating and breathing,” says young artist Lily Carpenter. “You can’t survive without it.”

“I love art because I get to draw pigs and drawing makes me happy,” says budding artist Zayden Parsons.

The “Wisdom of Youth” exhibit was made possible by a grant from the Lincoln County Cultural Coalition.

The Classroom Gallery is open noon to 4pm, Tuesday-Saturday.
