2023 Nye Beach Banner Project – Auction

Now in its 15th year, the Nye Beach Banner Project celebrates Nye Beach as the ‘Art Heart’ of Newport, beautifies the coastal neighborhood, and highlights the creative talents of community artists. It also raises funds for youth art programs, sponsored by the Oregon Coast Council for the Arts.
The 2023 auction will begin with an in-person kick-off party on Saturday, November 4, from 12pm-5pm at Newport Visual Arts Center in Nye Beach. On the closing day, November 11th, join us from 1pm-4pm for a Family Art Project!
These stunning banners begin as drop cloths that are cut, sewn, and primed with leftover house paint, then painted by the artists (who donate their time and talents). They’re then clear-coated, grommeted, and hung in the Nye Beach neighborhood. All of this is done by volunteers, with Veronica Lundell – the project founder and organizer – keeping the project going.
Eight banners are part of the forth year of banner exchanges with Newport’s Sister City in Mombetsu, Japan. The Banner Art Project helps to grow the connection between cities by trading four Newport banners for four Mombetsu banners. Be sure to look for them as you walk through beautiful Nye Beach.
