Seward Whitfield has been using paintbrushes and chainsaws most of his life- recently combining both in intriguing works on plywood panels, beginning with a “sketch” with the tip of a saw and finishing by painting with acrylics. The results, landscape or abstract, exhibit depth and texture that defy easy written description- best to see them at Wild Rain Gallery on Hwy 6 near Tillamook. Seward continues to do watercolors, wry found object assemblages, wire sculptures, hammered jewelry and mixed media works. He crafts one-of-a-kind furniture from his finds as a timber faller and arborist.
