Newport Public Library 2024 Summer Music Series Presents: Tsunami Zone Live at Literacy Park

Newport, OR – The Newport Public Library is thrilled to announce the next performance in its 2024 Summer Music Series, featuring the dynamic band Tsunami Zone. This exciting concert will take place on Saturday, July 13, from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm, in the beautiful setting of Literacy Park, located behind the Newport Public Library at 35 NW Nye Street.

Tsunami Zone is an eclectic collaboration of newfound musical friends, each bringing their unique influences and passions to create an unforgettable musical experience. The band blends Rock, R&B, Blues, Country, Soul, Pop, Latin, and more, ensuring a diverse and lively performance that will have everyone dancing, smiling, singing along, and simply having a good time. Tsunami Zone’s repertoire includes covers of renowned artists such as Robben Ford, John Mayer, Jonny Lang, Darius Rucker, Stevie Wonder, Keb’ Mo’, James Taylor, Santana, Clint Park, and many more. Meet Tsunami Zone:

Sport Thompson (Guitar): With over 50 years of experience in playing, building, and fixing guitars, Sport has toured the world, sharing stages with the likes of Guns N’ Roses, Winger, Megadeth, Y&T, Faith No More, and Skid Row. Now calling the Oregon coast home, Sport brings his passion for electric guitar to Tsunami Zone.

Dan McCue (Vocals): Originally from Colorado and Montana, Dan has lived in Oregon for 25 years. He is the CFO for the Siletz Tribe and has a rich history in music, from school and church choirs to local karaoke contests. Dan enjoys golf, fly fishing, and spending time with his family, who affectionately call him Sparky.

Tom Ettel (Keyboard and Vocals): Eugene-born Tom has a background in honky tonk piano, jazz, country, and barbershop. His style is influenced by New Orleans jazz, gospel, and country, and he brings a wealth of experience from playing in his sister’s country band.

Jan Kaplan (Bass Guitar, Electric Standup Bass, and Vocals): A Bronx native who has embraced Oregon for 25 years, Jan has performed in Nashville and New York State. His local musical journey includes playing with the Bristones, King Mixer, Sunset Harbor Home Boys Choir, Blue Variant, and Weird Science.

AC Johnson (Drums): From rockabilly and blues in San Francisco to various bands in Oregon, AC loves creating grooves that connect with listeners. His past bands include the Unlikely Saints, Smokewagon, and Revolving Door.

Families are encouraged to bring chairs, blankets, and their enthusiasm for an afternoon of music, community, and enjoyment. In the event of inclement weather, the concert will move indoors to the cozy Reading Room of the Newport Public Library, ensuring a warm and welcoming atmosphere for all attendees.

The 2024 Newport Public Library Summer Music Series offers free admission and is open to the public. This cherished community event is made possible through the generous support of the Newport Public Library Foundation and the City of Newport. Throughout the summer, various dates and times will feature performances showcasing diverse musical talents and genres.
