Michael Somerscale’s paintings include initial applications of oil paint followed by layers of acrylic paint. He uses bold and vibrant color combinations, layering of paint, and has a playful execution of lines that guide us through the work. Somerscales incorporates segments and shapes where the eye can rest before continuing the visual journey through his paintings. The fantasies in his subconscious mind invite the viewer into a new dimension, where they are invited to arrive at their own interpretation and mood.
Michael Somerscales was born in England, and immigrated to America at age 20. He received his B of A at UC Berkeley and Masters of Fine Art degree from Stanford University where he studied under Frank Lobdell and Nathan Oliveira. His one man shows include Boody Fine Arts, St. Louis, MO, Village Galleries in Maui, HI, Quincy University, IL and Providence Hospital, Portland, OR.
