Roles Available & Sample Dialogue

Phil

Description:  Phil is in his late 40s to early 50s with a rugged crabber vibe—wind-weathered, salt-of-the-earth charm. He’s the unofficial philosopher of The Barge, delivering dry humor with impeccable timing and an unshakable confidence. Phil speaks directly to the audience, letting them in on the joke like an old friend.

Sample Dialogue:
(Leaning back, pint in hand, smirking)
Phil: Some come to Newport for the beauty. Others, for the history.
(beat, smirk widens)
Phil: But you? You came here for The Barge.
(Raises pint slightly, sea lion barks in the background)
Phil: Ain’t that right, sea lions?

Tourist Dad (Kyle)

Description: Kyle is a suburban dad in his 40s, awkwardly trying to fit in at The Barge. He’s overprepared and hilariously out of his element, but his earnestness makes him lovable. His dad-style Newport “Lifeguard” golf sweater and polite nervousness add to his comedic charm.

Sample Dialogue:
(Wide-eyed, entering the bar)
Kyle: Uh… I’ll have a beer, please?
(Later, holding pint awkwardly, pinky slightly out)
Kyle: Cheers, everyone?
(Phil deadpans and gently pushes Kyle’s hand down)
Phil: This ain’t a tea party, Kyle.

Tourist Mom

Description: Tourist Mom is in her late 40s to early 50s, the upbeat family cheerleader who reacts to everything with big, sincere enthusiasm. Dressed in a trendy puffy vest, she’s the type who treats a burger like a life-changing experience, making her over-the-top reactions both endearing and hilarious.

Sample Dialogue:
(Taking a bite of her burger, eyes lighting up with delight)
Tourist Mom: This… this is everything!
(Phil, glancing at the camera, smirks)
Phil: Wait ‘til you try the fries.

Nanna

Description: Nanna, in her late 60s to early 70s, is a fearless and eccentric matriarch. She’s no-nonsense yet adventurous, adding a touch of delightful chaos to the group. Whether she’s slamming her beer on the table or venturing out to find sea lions, Nanna is unapologetically herself.

Sample Dialogue:
(Slamming her beer on the table, leaning toward Tourist Mom)
Nanna: The beer’s damn good, but I gotta go find Gary.
(Later, soaking wet but triumphant)
Nanna: Named one Bark Twain. He likes it.

Bartender

Description: The bartender is in their 30s or 40s, effortlessly cool and unflappable. They’ve mastered the art of the cinematic pint slide and deliver dry humor with minimal effort. They’re the unsung hero of The Barge, running the show with a no-nonsense attitude.

Sample Dialogue:
(Sliding a pint across the bar without looking)
Bartender: First one’s on me—if you catch it.

Rugged Guy

Description: In his late 30s to early 50s, Rugged Guy is a local with a weathered look and a kind soul. He’s the bar’s unofficial welcoming committee, guiding clueless tourists like Kyle with a mix of humor and gentle encouragement.

Sample Dialogue:
(Gently guiding Kyle’s pint to the table)
Rugged Guy: Easy, buddy. You’ll get the hang of it.
