Cloud Painting in Oils
with Khara Ledonne
Adults (or youth 16+ with adult)
Back by popular demand! This class will use brushes loaded with paint to explore the lush and smeary process of layering oils wet-on-wet. We’ll jump right into making a mess of test brushstrokes to see how oil paint can be both magic and muddy. Next, we’ll cut up our reference images to find distinct values and shapes. Our project of focus will be a small cloud-seascape on panel. We will simplify shapes, blend two colors in a single brushstroke, create radiant light, and vary the direction of our strokes for dynamism. Each student will complete one painting, with freedom to do more if there is time.
All skill levels are welcome! If you’re a beginner who is intimidated by oils, or a painter wanting to work more boldly, this class is for you.
