Introduction to Intaglio

Intaglio is a printmaking technique where ink is held in recessed areas of a plate and transferred to paper through pressure. In this introductory class, students will learn the drypoint method – inscribing fine lines directly into a plate with a sharp tool, then inking, wiping, and printing with a press – in the VAC’s new printmaking studio. All supplies will be provided. Join us for an enjoyable evening and leave with your finished plate, at least one professional print, and the skills to keep creating with this incredible technique!

About the instructor: Cheryl Horton is based in Newport, OR where she is inspired daily by the wildlife and ecosystems of the Oregon Coast. She believes wholeheartedly that art is for everyone and must be accessible to all members of our community. While she dabbles in a variety of mediums and enjoys trying new techniques, Cheryl has been captivated by printmaking since 2020! As one of the first cohort in the Visual Art Center’s Teaching Artist Program, Cheryl has refined her teaching skills and looks forward to sharing approachable classes in a welcoming and supportive environment.
