Learn about the magic of creating unique prints with found plants and a printing press. We will be creating detailed one-off prints from dried, pressed plants. Bring flowers from your favorite farmer’s market flower farm, pick some flowers or leaves from your backyard, or experiment with some of the provided plant materials. We will cover the basics of monoprinting, explore how to prepare plant materials for use as a stencil, and creating the final print with the press. Students will leave this class with a unique series of botanical prints and new printmaking tips to experiment on your own. All plants need to be dried and pressed ahead of class time. This can be achieved with a plant press, a book, or laying the plants between sheets of paper and putting books/heavy objects on top. Drying time can vary depending on the plants chosen.

$10 materials fee applies. Deadline to register is October 10

About the instructor:
LaRaye Rushing is a Lincoln City graphic artist and printmaker inspired by her home on the Oregon Coast. She has a BBA in Accounting from Angelo State University and a BS in Digital Arts and Design from Full Sail University. After a successful career as a graphic designer for several nonprofits, she transitioned to an active printmaking practice in 2020. Working out of her home studio, she has shown her work in local galleries and participated in many local art markets. Her practice consists of botanical cyanotypes and monoprints using plants foraged locally. She loves all elements of printmaking and experimenting with each medium including using her own handmade paper for monoprinting. See more of her work at heylaraye.com
