Learn about the Japanese style of print making called Gyotaku and make cards using a real octopus specimen. This is a fun beginner print making class suitable for new and experienced students alike. If you have not tried Gyotaku yet you won’t want to miss it! In this class you will learn step by step how to apply ink to the octopus specimen and then transfer an image of it to your cards. This is a great class for people who have an interest in art but have always thought they couldn’t draw. No drawing or painting experience required! Come and have fun playing with colors and print making in this fun and addictive art form.

All class materials will be provided. Students should wear clothes that they may get ink on. If you can bring scrap papers to class for inking sheets that would be helpful! Deadline to register is October 16

Scholarships may be available. If funds are a barrier to learning, please CLICK HERE to request financial assistance.

To help ensure an enjoyable experience for all, we kindly encourage guests to consider attending fragrance-free in support of those with allergies and sensitivities.

About the instructor:
Jill Marks began printmaking in 2016 where she learned the art of Gyotaku (Japanese fish printing) from Heather Fortner. Jill’s art has expanded since then to include gelli plate printing, eco printing, and lino-cut print making. She enjoys utilizing natural botanicals in her artwork and hopes to inspire an appreciation and sense of stewardship toward nature and our environment through her work.
