This is an introductory class on solar plate printmaking, a non-toxic alternative to more hazardous printmaking techniques, that uses sunlight to create images on a light-sensitive polymer plate. Students will learn to transfer their own photographs or drawings onto the plates, which are then exposed to UV light and developed with water to create an “etched” image. The course covers the entire process from preparing your image and plate to inking, wiping, and printing the final artwork on an etching press. No prior printmaking experience is needed, making it suitable for the absolute beginner to the more advanced artist alike.

Deadline to register is January 30

Scholarships may be available. If funds are a barrier to learning, please CLICK HERE to request financial assistance.

To help ensure an enjoyable experience for all, we kindly encourage guests to consider attending fragrance-free in support of those with allergies and sensitivities.

About the instructor:
Helen is a short, right-handed, Asian woman who makes prints. Still capable of making sense of light and dark, dynamic opposed to static, and perspectives — but puzzled about color theory and can’t paint worth beans. Sticking to making drawings, printmaking, and working with black and white.
