Printmaking created while in residency at Skopelos Foundation for the Arts in Skopelos, Greece.
Julia Goos’s work explores the fragmented nature of memory and the ways we piece together personal and collective histories. Drawing from printmaking, quilting, and book arts, she constructs layered compositions that reflect processes of remembering and forgetting, revealing and concealing. Through archival materials, stitched forms, and printed surfaces, Goos invites viewers to engage with the tactile and temporal qualities of narrative—how stories are preserved, altered, or lost over time. Goos’s practice is rooted in material experimentation and often shaped by the rhythms of care, collaboration, and incremental making.

About the artist…
Julia Goos is a visual artist and educator based on the Oregon Coast whose work explores themes of memory, fragmentation, and material storytelling through printmaking, book arts, and textile-inspired processes. Her practice is deeply rooted in archival methods and the metaphor of quilting, often reflecting on how histories—both personal and collective—are pieced together, obscured, and reinterpreted. Goos holds an MFA in Printmaking from Illinois State University and a BFA in Art from the University of Wyoming. She currently teaches visual arts at Oregon Coast Community College in Newport, Oregon, where she also contributes to community-based arts programming and collaborative projects.
Her work has been exhibited in venues such as: Normal Editions Workshop, Illinois State University, Skopelos Foundation for the Arts, Skopelos, Greece, University Galleries, Bloomington, Illinois, Chessman Gallery, Lincoln City, OR, Various regional and academic galleries across the Pacific Northwest and Midwest.
Goos is also a co-organizer of Mother Matrix, a collaborative printmaking initiative that supports artist-mothers through shared studio practices and incremental making. Her contributions to the field have been recognized through Graduate Fellowship Awards at Illinois State University and selection for juried exhibitions focused on contemporary printmaking.
