Franco Zeffirelli’s spectacular production of “Turandot” returns to the big screen at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 7 at the Newport Performing Arts Center’s Alice Silverman Theatre. Screened live in HD from the Metropolitan Opera in New York City, Puccini’s classic is hosted locally by Patty Olmsted.
Yannick Nézet-Séguin, the Met’s Jeanette Lerman-Neubauer Music Director, conducts his first Puccini opera with the company. Powerhouse soprano Christine Goerke takes on the icy title princess, alongside tenor Roberto Aronica as the unknown prince vying for her love. Run time is approximately 3 hours and 15 minutes, with two intermissions; read a synopsis from the Met.
The Metropolitan Opera Live in HD series is made possible by a generous grant from the Neubauer Family Foundation. OCCA thanks the Jeannette B. Hofer Fund at the Oregon Community Foundation, the City of Newport, season benefactors Bill and JoAnn Barton, opera hosts, OCCA members and local opera fans for their continuing support.
