Enjoy the works of 3 celebrated Art Quilters at the Art Quilt Trifecta exhibition sponsored by Polly plumb Productions, November 23 – 24,
10:00 AM – 4:00 PM in the Yachats Commons.
Art Quilting is fascinating and a relatively new art form. The evolution of the quilt from bed cover to museum piece and the quilt maker from homebased to trained artist is celebrated in a 1977 book The Art Quilt by Robert Shaw. As the quilters work place moved from kitchen to studio, the art quilt continues to reinvent itself. Quilters with their signature techniques, search for innovative methods of construction, while increasing the use of non-traditional materials and instilling personally meaningful subject matter.
Those words are so true and play out well with the starring 3 art quilt artists showing their work in the Yachats community.
Ginny McVickar has her Textile Art showing in four different countries, Ginny is now expanding her horizons to bring art to as many viewers as she can. After retirement, she began refocusing on her love of art and was looking for the right canvas and discovered Textile Art .
She currently resides in Oregon and has had solo shows as well as has been the show designer and coordinator of two international Textile Art shows.
Joining her is Joanne Baeth who is a retired school teacher, and became inspired by wildlife and nature and started taking photographs and drawing birds, animals and landscapes. During this same time, she had the opportunity to see several art quilt shows and decided to combine her love of the outdoors, drawing, photography and quilting. Her goal is to create art quilts that resemble oil or water color paintings. Since 2006, she has won over 100 awards at national and international quilt shows.
Laura Fogg is a textile artist and focuses on large fabric collage landscapes. These are sewn together like quilts but are intended to be hung on walls as they are made of a wide variety of shiny, metallic and fragile fabrics and are frequently embellished with beads, buttons, and yarns to have a playful appearance.
Laura’s work has been shown both locally and nationally. Two pieces are currently in nationwide travelling shows having won ribbons in national competitions. Her work has also been published in several books and magazines.
