Band music is alive and thriving on Oregon’s North Coast! The North Coast Symphonic Band provides quality musical experiences for musicians and audiences alike. The band is composed of musicians of all ages from high school students to seniors and from all walks of life. There are music professionals in the group as well as students, teachers, a vice-principal, doctors, nurses, contractors, businessmen, “Coasties” from the Coast Guard, and retirees – all of whom have made music a life-long avocation.
Wind players encouraged formation of the North Coast Symphonic Band in 1979 and its current conductor is Dave Becker, retired music educator from Lewis and Clark College. Over the years, the North Coast Symphonic Band has developed a reputation as a disciplined group that eagerly accepts musical challenges. The NCSB performs six concerts yearly at the Clatsop Community College Performing Arts Center and the Liberty Theater in Astoria and on the 4th of July in the Cannon Beach City Park.
The North Coast Symphonic Band is a mainstay for instrumental musicians in the entire North Coast area and many travel numerous miles every Monday evening to join the group for its rehearsals. The band provides a social outlet for musicians of all ages and an opportunity for musicians to network and be creative. New members are welcome to join but should check with Personnel Director Lee Stromquist first. Some sections of the band are full and have waiting lists. The band rehearses Monday evenings at the CCC PAC. Contact Stromquist at encore1@charter.net or call 503-861-1328.
