Trained as an engineer, Constance Waisanen has engaged the right side of her brain as an artist since childhood. Using the natural world as a primary source of inspiration, she creates image on fabric with shibori, ice dying, rust and mono printing on gelatin plates. Fabrics are pieced, stitched and layered to create images that range from realistic to abstract. Found objects, stick and stone, enhance the tactile experience. Recent experiments in the studio have produced a series of concrete orbs, which create an interesting juxtaposition with the softness of her hand dyed silk scarves.
