Big Blue Film Festival (BBFF) showcases ocean-themed films at the confluence of marine sciences, humanities, and the arts. It also aims to engage the community and raise awareness about marine issues and how we might solve them.

For this, the second annual BBFF, 155 films were submitted by filmmakers from 39 countries! Our final selection includes 27 films. We have grouped these films into six 2-hour blocks that will be shown in two locations: Hatfield’s Gladys Valley Marine Studies Building, and the Newport Performing Arts Center.

For complete information on films and block schedules, visit:

FILM BLOCKS & BREAKS
The festival is broken down into blocks, with an hour’s break given between each block. This allows you to grab food, explore our fantastic building or poke around the lovely city of Newport. There will be food and drink for purchase, as well as t-shirt and sticker sales! (cash only).

OPENING NIGHT RECEPTION & BEST IN SHOW, FRIDAY, JANUARY 26
Doors open at 5:15pm. This first showing includes a reception and films at Hatfield’s Gladys Valley Marine Studies Building (GVMSB) in the Carmen Ford Phillips Auditorium. Complementary food and drinks are available. Awards will be presented to the winning filmmakers.

SATURDAY, JANUARY 27
Doors open at 9:30am. On the festival’s second day, we will be showing films in the GVMSB Carmen Ford Phillips Auditorium auditorium at Hatfield and at the Newport Performing Arts Center. Films will be shown in two-hour blocks. Below are lists of blocks and summaries of the films showing at each location.

The BBFF is a collaboration with Oregon State University’s Hatfield Marine Science Center, Marine Studies Initiative and OSU Productions, as well as the Oregon Coast Council for the Arts and other community partners.
