Altering Women’s Ready-to-Wear Clothing

Learn various methods of altering women’s ready-to-wear clothing. This class will cover hems, side seams, bodice, and sleeve alterations. Students are encouraged to bring a garment that needs alterations with them.
Students should know the basics of how to use a sewing machine prior to attending this class. Students are encouraged to bring a garment to class to work on.

Marie-Lise Best was born and raised in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. She learned to sew and knit from her Mom at a very early age. In 2020 she moved to Waldport, Oregon where she runs a custom sewing business and has recently started a fiber arts group. She enjoys all the fiber arts, especially garment sewing, pattern drafting, weaving, spinning, knitting and felting.
Marie has a Bachelor’s degree from McGill University in Montreal, and a Master’s Degree from San Diego State University. She is a Certified Sewing Educator with 25 years’ experience of teaching at the collegiate level as well as at local shops. She has certificates in fashion design, fashion art, fashion business, pattern making, draping and sewing from the University of Fashion in New York City.
This class is part of FIBER FEST, running January 11 to March 1, 2025 – celebrating fiber arts and artists with exhibits, demonstrations, and classes throughout two buildings and across four galleries.
