The Met: Live in HD season kicks off with Mozart’s satirical comedy of fickle young love. It remains one of his most sublime creations. Phelim McDermott’s staging treats the opera to a colorful, inventive 1950s Coney Island theme. Set at a boardwalk amusement park, the uproarious story sends two pairs of lovers on a wild, emotional thrill ride.
Soprano Federica Lombardi and mezzo-soprano Samantha Hankey sing the roles of Fiordiligi and Dorabella. They star opposite tenor Duke Kim and baritone Andrey Zhilikhovsky as Ferrando and Guglielmo. Bass-baritone Gerald Finley reprises his portrayal of the cynical Don Alfonso. Soprano Ana María Martínez joins them as the witty maid Despina.
Recorded live on the Metropolitan Opera stage. Presented in HD on the big screen at the Newport Performing Arts Center’s Alice Silverman Theatre.
