DRAWING IN THE DARK
with Jordan Essoe
What is the difference between seeing and observing? Let’s go on a journey in the dark to discover how limiting our view might expand what we perceive and heighten our ability to make art.
In this four-week class, students will be guided through a series of lowlight drawing exercises and projects – from drawing by candlelight to drawing in absolute darkness. Beginning on the night of January’s new moon and continuing for a full lunar cycle, we’ll challenge everything we think we know about light, seeing, sketching, and the night. We’ll draw still lives, each other, and the dark itself, focusing on the process and living in the moment. On the night of the full moon, we will have a nude model. Each session will conclude with a class discussion and critique. All skill levels are welcome. Leave your preconceptions at the door.
