Puccini’s exhilarating Wild West drama returns in a new staging by director Richard Jones. This marks the company’s first new production of the opera in more than 30 years. Soprano Vida Miknevičiūtė makes an important Met debut as the larger-than-life Minnie. She plays a tough tavern owner with a heart of gold who finds love unexpectedly.
Tenor SeokJong Baek is the dashing bandit who rambles into the remote California mining town. He steals her heart, opposing baritone Christopher Maltman as the determined lawman. Maltman’s character seeks to deliver rough justice—and win Minnie for himself. Maestro Keri-Lynn Wilson takes the podium to conduct one of opera’s most action-packed adventures.
