Dive into new artistic depths in Nye Beach
Into the Depths – a new exhibit from Pacific Northwest Sculptors, presented by Oregon Coast Council for the Arts – will be on display in the Runyan Gallery at Newport Visual Arts Center from June 2 – July 29, 2023. The show will feature over 50 sculptures by more than 30 artists.
Portland-based Pacific Northwest Sculptors (PNWS) showcases artists from diverse backgrounds, who create in a wide array of mediums and styles. A nonprofit educational organization formed in 2000 by a handful of dedicated sculptors, PNWS engages and serves students, beginners, emerging artists, and regional and internationally recognized sculptors from throughout the Pacific Northwest region. Their members are “united by a desire to further the art of sculpture, and dedicated to sharing knowledge, inspiration, and creative opportunities with one another, our home communities, and the art world at large.”
“Oregon Coast Council for the Arts is delighted to welcome Pacific Northwest Sculptors back to the Runyan Gallery,” said Chasse Davidson, Director of Newport Visual Arts Center (VAC). “We share their mission to offer opportunities for growth and exposure to artists of varying backgrounds and experience. Being able to witness this scope and magnitude of sculptor work under one roof will be a treat.”
An opening reception will take place on Friday, June 2nd from 5pm-9pm at Newport Visual Arts Center. The event will feature live music by guitarist Skip Trantow, wine and light refreshments, and artist talks beginning at 7pm. All are welcome, and admission is free.
In addition to viewing works of art at the VAC, community members can learn to create three-dimensional art of their own. Russ Ford, one of the artists participating in the exhibit, will be leading a two-part raku fired mask workshop at the VAC on June 3rd and 10th. Space is limited and there is a fee to participate, however, scholarships are available. Those interested are encouraged to learn more at www.coastarts.org/events/raku-mask.
Exhibits at Newport Visual Arts Center (VAC) are free to the public and can be viewed most Wednesdays through Saturdays, from 12pm – 4pm, at 777 NW Beach Drive in Newport. However, please note that the VAC will be closed on May 31st and June 1st – to prepare for the exhibit – and will reopen to the public on Friday, June 2nd when the opening reception begins at 5:00pm.
