Drawing & Painting the Figure

In this exciting in-depth class, we will collaborate with ourselves — creating complimentary sets of pencil drawings and watercolor paintings.
In half of our class sessions we will work from live models. Alternating every other week, we will produce art using the work we made the previous class as reference and inspiration. For example, in week two we will translate pencil drawings we made the first week into watercolor paintings. In week four we will make pencil drawings from the watercolor paintings we made using the model in week three.
We will practice many drawing and painting techniques, try out multiple methods of transferring our images, and eventually pursue mixed media experiments.
Join us as we explore the dynamics of these two mediums and revel in their intersections and differences. We will have group critiques at the end of each session, and the instructor will explain and demonstrate all materials and techniques.

Jordan Essoe is an award-winning artist who has exhibited internationally. Primarily a painter and performance artist, his practice expanded to include film, playwriting, and journalism. His work has been covered by NPR, the Los Angeles Times, and the San Francisco Chronicle. He was born in Los Angeles County, raised in the California mountains, and currently lives on the central coast of Oregon.
