The Oregon Coast Council for the Arts presents Evan Peterson and his exhibition, “From Eye To You,” from May 31 to July 28 in the Runyan Gallery at the Newport Visual Arts Center. Peterson will exhibit new works in his signature style of reverse glass painting (acrylic, spray paint, window) as well as acrylic and spray paint works on canvas and mixed-media works on wood. A public reception will be held on Saturday, June 1, 1-6pm, with the artist speaking at 3pm.
Evan Peterson is an artist currently living in Seattle. Born in Minnesota and raised in Oregon, he pulls his inspiration from the environment around him and his time spent in the Midwest and Pacific Northwest. Best known for his reverse glass paintings, Peterson often combines several mediums in each of his works. The former Newport local credits his time on the Oregon coast for cultivating his art career and his appreciation for a sense of community.
“It’s been over five years since I’ve shown any art in Newport, and I’m thrilled to come home to share what I’ve been up to,” Peterson says. “This opportunity has truly inspired me to dig deep!”
Peterson describes himself as a self-taught artist who has grown with the support of mentors and peers. His work has been shown throughout the West Coast, including, the Madsen Gallery in Seattle, the Beppu Wiarda Gallery in Portland, Enso Gallery in Half Moon Bay, California, the Shack Art Center in Everett, Washington, and the Newport Visual Arts Center.
“This collection of work is new and covers a mix of mediums and themes with a consistent pallet. Familiar favorites will accompany,” Peterson says.
During the June 1 public reception, Evan Peterson will be joined by musical guest Kori Joy, a singer/songwriter and pianist from Minneapolis, Minnesota (aka Peterson’s mom). Please note the Saturday afternoon reception date and time.
The Runyan Gallery is open Tuesday-Sunday, 11am to 6pm.
