For the month of June the Oregon Coast Council for the Arts is moving its traditional First Friday public reception for new exhibitions to the first Saturday of the month. The pre-summer gathering, sponsored by Best Western Plus Agate Beach Inn, is shaping up to be a full afternoon of art viewing, artist talks, musical performances and other surprises. The reception will run from 1 to 6 p.m. June 1.
Joan Truckenbrod will be interviewed about her exhibit, “the flow of woven light,” by OSU professor Kirsi Peltomaki; at 1:30 p.m.; Kristy Lombard will discuss her exhibit, “Patterns & Texture” at 2:30 p.m.; and Evan Peterson will discuss his exhibit, “From Eye to You,” at 3 p.m.
The student exhibit from OCCA’s Art Fridays program, “Charcoal, Paint, Pencil,” is on view in the Classroom Gallery as well. Kori Joy, a singer/songwriter and pianist from Minneapolis, Minn., will perform outside the VAC, weather permitting.
“Moving the reception to a Saturday afternoon is accessible to more people,” says OCCA VAC Director Tom Webb. “My hope is that this will be a community gathering.”
