Massenet’s tale of passion, excess, and their consequences stars rising soprano Lisette Oropesa in the effervescent title role of “Manon,” at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 26 at the Newport Performing Arts Center’s Alice Silverman Theatre. Screened live in HD from the Metropolitan Opera in New York City, the event is hosted locally by Dorothy Black Crow.
Maurizio Benini conducts Laurent Pelly’s enchanting production, with tenor Michael Fabiano as Manon’s ardent admirer, the Chevalier des Grieux. Run time is approximately 4 hours and 5 minutes, with two intermissions; read a synopsis from the Met.
