Newport Paper & Book Arts Festival
Pop & Twist
This pop-up structure can be used to create a single-folio book, or a very special greeting card. When its cover is lifted the structure’s clever pop & twist mechanism creates a sudden burst of 4 accordion-fold panels. This playful yet elegant format invites imagery that can be whimsical or serious, subdued or bold. A title plate on the cover and a basic envelope-style casement completes the book.
Students should bring: Papers for personal imagery on panels (additional papers will be provided). Cutting mat (minimum 18 x 24”). Cutting knife (with fresh blade). Teflon bone folder. Graduated metal edge. Tweezers (small triangle or square tipped). Micro metal spatula. See-through plastic rulers – various widths and lengths. scissors, pencil, eraser. PVA in jar (small amount). Glue brush ~1/4 – 1/2” diameter. Glue sheets. Water jar. Personal stamps & stencils (optional). Personal light (optional)

Margo Klass is a mixed media sculptor whose work includes constructions and artist books. In both, natural and found objects are springboards for content, often narrative but always symbolic of meaning beyond what the objects suggest. Aesthetically she draws from her study of medieval art and travel in Japan. She has received awards from the Rasmuson Foundation and Alaska State Council on the Arts. In 2015 she received the Governor’s Individual Artist Award. Her work is in the Alaska State Museum, Anchorage Museum, University of Alaska Museum of the North, Pratt Museum, and other public and private collections. margoklass.com
