Newport Paper & Book Arts Festival
Skeleton Wooden Boards Binding
This book structure emphasizes both tradition and invention. Wooden boards are finished with layers of historical milk paint, resulting in richly textured and distressed surfaces. The leather sewing supports echo historical bindings while offering an artistic variation that makes each book truly one-of-a-kind. Through this blend of surface, structure, and color, students will discover how to merge historical techniques with contemporary expression. The structure has many applications which can give students ideas and inspiration about how to take this book to the next level in their artist book practice.
Students can bring: A mechanical pencil, notebook for taking notes, scissors, X-acto or snap blade knife, awl, bone folder, 12” metal ruler.
