The Newport Symphony Orchestra at the Ocean conducted by Adam Flatt with violinist Anthea Kreston perform Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in E minor. Maestro Flatt also includes on the program Handel’s Water Music, Bach and Webern’s Musical Offering: Ricercare and Hindemith’s Symphonic Metamorphosis of Themes by Carl Maria von Weber.
Maestro Flatt shares these thoughts, “Six composers, four works. It is fascinating to hear the vivid artistic personalities of Hindemith and Webern creating from the material of the other, earlier masters. The genius of these two twentieth century composers is illuminated by the fact that, despite the older composers’ melodies, the works belong thoroughly to them, and to modernity.”
There will be a pre-concert talk with Maestro Flatt at 6:45pm, Saturday night only. Join the NSO musicians, guest artist, and conductor after the concert for a reception hosted by Flying Dutchman Winery.
