Morning Session: Block Printing
9am-12:30pm, $40 plus $10 materials fee
Learn how to print an image without a printing press. This ancient technique has been adapted with modern materials, allowing you to create and recreate images on paper, fabric, polymer and regular clay. Learn to embrace the hand-made look of your own stamps for the uniqueness and special qualities achieved when added to a piece you’ve created. Review basic design principles and color theory, and then learn basic block-printing techniques using readily available, inexpensive supplies. Learn how to ink and print with Styrofoam and then learn how to cut on a rubber block. You will be printing on various paper and cardstock suitable for cards, collage and more. All materials provided. All you need to bring is an apron, paper and pencil. If you have an image you would like to create, bring it with you.
Afternoon Session: Image Transfers
1:30-5pm, $40 plus $10 materials fee
Do you have a great printed or magazine image that would be perfect as a card, part of a collage or a piece of wall art? Do you want to add depth to a collage or journal page? Come explore some of the different ways to transfer images to your artwork and why to use one method over another. You will learn and practice various image-transfer techniques, including utilizing glues, heat and solvents. Learn which techniques to use with laser prints, inkjet prints and magazine images, and why it matters which technique you use. These methods can transfer images to journals, polymer clay projects, prints, collage, fabric and more.
All materials, including images, are provided. All you need to bring is an apron, paper and pencil. Optional: magazine images, inkjet or laser prints, specialty paper or wood pieces to print on.
No previous experience necessary. Leave your creative insecurities at home, you cannot make mistakes in these workshops. Happy mistakes make for creative learning opportunities.
Spend the Whole Day Creating
9am-5pm, with lunch break from 12:30-1:30pm $70/plus $20 materials fee
This is a combination of the two sessions, with the extra benefit of a price break.
