Tea and Talk events, organized by Coastal Arts Guild, are informal afternoon gatherings for anyone curious about art and artists. Learn about inspiration, techniques, materials, and more from practicing artists. Free and open to all! Held at 2pm most third Thursdays on the 2nd floor of Newport Visual Arts Center.
This month’s event will feature Jennifer Smith, whose work is currently on display in the Upstairs Gallery as part of her “Botanical Alchemy” exhibit. Inspired by daily hikes in the Pacific Northwest, Smith was drawn to botanical printmaking, to reflect the beauty of the trees that surrounded her. Her process begins with the gathering of leaves and a search for wool and silk that she can up-cycle. “My desire is to share the rich beauty I see in nature,” said Smith, “in appreciation of the varied patterns, colors, and textures in the trees and leaves.”
