The Outsiders, a play adaptation of S.E. Hinton’s 1967 classic novel by Christopher Sergel, hits where hope and hardship collide. It follows Ponyboy Curtis, a thoughtful teen coming of age in the midst of an intense rivalry between two 1960s Oklahoma gangs: the working-class “greasers” and the wealthy “Socs.”
After a violent encounter forces Ponyboy and his friend Johnny into hiding, the Greasers become more than a gang, they become a family held together by what they refuse to lose.
In their fight for survival and through the story’s darkest passage, what emerges in The Outsiders is to “stay gold.”
