Tsunami Zone is…

Sport Thompson (guitar) has been playing, building, and fixing guitars for over 50 years. He has played venues of every size and style, from the rock clubs of LA to coffee houses, and concert stages for up to 30,000 people. Sport’s passion for electric guitar allowed him to tour the world in support of Guns n Roses, Winger, Megadeth, Y&T, Faith No More, and Skid Row. He feels blessed to call the Oregon coast his home.

Dan McCue (Vocals) grew up in both Colorado and Montana and headed to Oregon about 25 years ago. He’s the CFO for the Siletz Tribe. He’s been involved in music for most of his life, including school and church choirs, as a soloist, and a couple of “garage” bands over the last decade. Dan is a fixture in the local karaoke scene, winning a few contests along the way.  Dan loves playing golf, fly fishing, and hanging out with his wife, five kids, and grandkids, who lovingly refer to him as Sparky.

Tom Ettel (Keyboard and Vocals) Tom Ettel was born and raised in Eugene, Oregon. He played an old honky tonk piano as a child, then dabbled in jazz, country and barbershop. His sister taught him how to play by ear, then he played keyboard and sang backup in his sister’s country band. Tom style is influenced by New Orleans jazz, gospel and country.

Jan Kaplan (Bass Guitar, Electric Standup Bass and Vocals) hails from The Bronx/East Coast and has been an Oregonian for 25 years.  He has a background in Jazz and Blues and has performed in Nashville and in New York State.  Local bands he has played with include the Bristones, King Mixer, Sunset Harbor Home Boys Choir, Blue Variant and Weird Science.  He has sometimes been seen in the vicinity of Newport City Hall.

AC Johnson (drums) has played in many bands with varying influences and musical styles. From his days in San Francisco cutting his teeth on rockabilly, blues and rock n roll, to his time in Oregon playing with the Unlikely Saints, Smokewagon and Revolving Door, he always loves to lay down grooves with bands whose passion for playing reaches their listeners and makes a connection
