Watercolor Portrait Painting
with Jordan Essoe
An exciting portrait captures something of the subject’s essence. Composition, color, contrast, proportion, and likeness are all essential concerns, but the most important question is… how can we use these things to say something meaningful about a person’s internal life?
Join us as we explore the rewarding art of portraiture through watercolor. We will practice both bold, immediate painting techniques and more patient methods using cumulative transparent glazes. The delicacy of human expression can be rendered in watercolor in a way that is difficult to achieve in other mediums. We will divide our time between working from photo reference and painting from live models. One major project will be completed in steps. We will have group critiques at the end of each session, and the instructor will explain and demonstrate all materials and techniques.
