Stout Park, adjacent to the Manley Art Center, is a great place for a picnic or to simply sit and enjoy the many wild plants, herbs, azaleas, a variety of trees, and even an old apple orchard.
A walk up the hillside reveals the site of the Stout Mountain Railway, a miniature garden railroad that is run by volunteers on special occasions throughout the year.
The first weekend of August, Stout Park hosts the annual “Festival of Art” featuring the work of local artisans. Festivities include Plein Air artists at work, a food court, outdoor music and an indoor art show.
Stout Park Dog Park provides the perfect place to bring your dogs for a little socializing with their canine friends in a safe, fenced, environment.
Stout Park was donated to the City of Brookings in 1966 by Palm May Cowden Stout. Her late husband, Frank D. Stout, held the controlling interest in the C & O Lumber Company in Brookings. The family maintained and developed the property as a summer, and sometimes year-round retreat. A naturalist, Palm Stout left a trust to help maintain the park.
Work is underway to transform the lower portion of Stout Park into a new space with even more plants to provide year-round interest! Plans include a seating area for picnics and lunch breaks as well as custom engraved brick pavers to adorn the walkways. A focal point of the project will be a unique custom water feature. We are seeking donations, volunteers, and any and all help to realize our dream for Lower Stout Park!
