October 1st
Make Your Own Sketchbook with Christina Carlsen
To kick off the After-School Program students will walk through the steps to create their own sketchbook. We will paint the canvas cover with acrylic paint, stitch the interior pages together, and then using simple book binding techniques pull it altogether for a handmade sketchbook that students can fill with whatever they want.
October 8th
Nature Journaling with Christina Carlsen
Using their handmade sketchbooks from the previous week students will take a guided walk through the Nye Beach neighborhood (weather permitting) and learn some nature journaling techniques. We will practice some observational drawing, as well as some simple print making techniques from any natural elements that the students find on the walk.
October 15th
Introduction to Printmaking with Christina Carlsen
Get ready to explore the world of printmaking in this class. Students will get to work in the VAC’s new print studio learning 2 printmaking techniques (relief & intaglio). They will create plates with their own designs carved and etched into the surface then apply ink and roll the plates through the Bartow press to create prints on paper.
October 22nd
Paint with Felt with Marcy Kenyon
Take a walk on the woolly side in this class using the wet felt technique to create colorful paintings.
October 29th
Cards that Pop with Rena Ekmanis
In this class students will create their own pop-up cards with moving parts. We will have fun gluing, cutting and making designs with colored papers.
November 5th
Sculpting with Clay with Charlotte Van Zant King
Have fun with clay sculpting a fish and decorating it with different techniques and glazes.
November 12th
Paper Mache on Canvas (Part 1) with Robin Berry
Students will get a chance to create a 3D animal out of paper mache peaking out of a painted canvas. This will be a 2 part class with the first part creating the design and working on the 3D elements in paper mache then letting them dry until the next class.
November 19th
Paper Mache on Canvas (Part 2) with Robin Berry
Expand your creation further in this continuation from last week’s class. With the 3D paper mache elements dry in this class we will paint the canvas to finish the piece.
