Now in our 29th year! Our 2026 festival will take place in Newport, Oregon and the surrounding communities in April of 2026.
CALL FOR WORKSHOP PROPOSALS
DEADLINE: October 29, 2025
The Oregon Coast Council for the Arts is accepting proposals for the annual Newport Paper & Book Arts Festival. The 2026 festival dates are April 23rd, 24th, and 25th, 2026. The workshops will be held at the Newport Visual Arts Center as well as other classroom spaces in the area. We welcome new and innovative techniques as well as traditional processes, including but not limited to: Assemblage, Book Arts, Collage, Dyeing, Mixed Media, Paper Making, Paper Manipulation, Printing, Specialty Binding Techniques and Surface Design. We encourage you to submit multiple workshop proposals for consideration.
We are looking for one and two-day workshops. The two-day workshops will be held on Thursday and Friday. Workshop hours are from 9-4:30, with an hour break from 12-1 Our classrooms vary in size, accommodating 8-16 students. In your proposal(s), please indicate how many students you are willing to teach. OCCA will determine the final class size based on the rooms available and their capacity. Instructors are paid based on the number of students that attend the class. $450 for 10 or less students, $475 for more than 10 students.
Instructors will receive:
1. Materials fee per student that reflects the cost of any materials provided by the instructor.
2. Complimentary lunch on the day(s) you instruct.
3. Travel Stipend of $0.45 a mile roundtrip (shortest route), up to $300.
4. Room and Board assistance (up to $110/day) for the days you are teaching if you live 50 miles or more from Newport.
5. 10% off the registration fee of a workshop taken during the festival. (Material fee and lunch additional)
Images are what sell a workshop. Please attach a minimum of three high-resolution images for the workshop, plus a photo of yourself (JPG or PNG format, 300 DPI at 10″ x 10″) suitable for inclusion in print and web publicity with each proposal. One of the images should be an overview and one should be a close-up of your work. Please retain a copy of each proposal for yourself. *If you know of anyone that might be interested in teaching at the festival this year please share this document with them! The final deadline for proposals is October 29th, 2025. Please send in your proposals as soon as possible, ahead of the deadline.
Note: Proposals that are incomplete or come in after October 29th may not be considered.
