Using house paint, acrylic, and paint pens on repurposed wood, Lincoln City artist Ben Soeby’s intricate and wild pieces are inspired by a lifetime spent on the river and in the woods.
“Ben’s playful signature style of unique characters and coastal imagery, combined with his use of text and bold palette choice are so approachable and fun, we are thrilled to share his work at the VAC.” – Chasse Davidson, Director, Newport Visual Arts Center
From the artist…
Art and fishing saved my life, and the two activities have given me an attachment to the moment, as well as a meaningful perspective on nature and life.
Soeby received a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from Oregon State University. He went on to travel to distant lands before making the decision to return to his native rivers, much like the salmon that inspire him, to live out his dream of making art and living and learning from nature. He has shown in many solo and group shows on the Oregon Coast as well as Portland. His work can be seen in several restaurants and businesses along the coast.
